Adapted from American reality show “Big Brother“, hosted by superstar Salman Khan, this show has become a launchpad for many stars in India. While winning the trophy obviously brings name and fame, it’s what contestants do after the show that actually matters. Here’s how some Big Boss folks turned their reality TV fame into long term success.
From Unknown Faces to Big Names: Sunny Leone and Nora Fatehi
For many, this show was the key that unlocked the door to Bollywood and success. Sunny Leone, a superstar today, was hardly known before entering the Big Boss season 5. Her strong personality and real game on the show made her a national name, the famous director/producer Mahesh Bhatt offered her first movie break, while she was still a contestant. Similarly, Nora Fatehi was a struggling dancer before her participation in Bigg Boss 9. Her bubbly personality, killer moves impressed viewers a lot. After this show, there was no turning back for Fatehi, she landed item song gigs in big movies and was part of movies like ABCD franchise, directed by choreographer turned director Remo Dsouza and Ajay Devgn starrer Bhuj. Nora made sure to leave her impact in the Bollywood industry.
Second Chances for Established Stars: Siddharth Shukla, Hina Khan and Gauhar Khan
Already famous and loved actors like Late Siddharth Shukla, Hina Khan and Gauhar Khan used the Big Boss platform to show a whole new side of themselves and revive their careers. Siddharth, loved for his roles in serials like Balika Vadhu, Dil SE Dil Tak and movie Humpty Sharma ki Dulhaniya, surprised everyone with his humor, smart strategies, fights with Rashmi Desai and Arhan and his bond with Asim Riaz and Shehnaz Gill, his real personality and blunt attitude made him the winner of Bigg Boss 13. This popularity opened his doors to lead roles in web series and music videos, Shukla passed away on September 2nd 2021 after a cardiac arrest, but his fans and followers still remember him as one of the best winners of Big Boss. Hina Khan popularly known as Akshara from Star Plus longest running daily soap “Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai” used Bigg Boss 11 to break away from her on screen image. Known as Sher Khan in the show, her strong personality and game sense got her tons of fans, leading to big endorsements, films, music videos and even a red carpet walk at the Cannes Film Festival. Gauhar Khan, a model and actress, participated in Bigg Boss 7 and won hearts with her strong opinion, loyalty and bond with co contestant Kushal Tondon. The show gave her career a major boost, landing her roles in films and TV shows.
From Regular Folks to Stars: Asim Riaz, Shehnaz Gill, Manu Punjabi and Manveer Gujjar
Bigg Boss isn’t just for celebrities and big names. Regular people like Asim Riaz, Shehnaz Gill, Manu Punjabi and Manveer Gujjar used the show’s massive success and reach to build their own careers. Asim Riaz, the runner up of Bigg Boss 13, became a stunner with his loyalty to fellow contestant Himanshi Khurana and his brotherly bond with Siddharth Shukla. After the show, he built a successful music career and even landed modeling gigs. Shehnaz Gill, another Big Boss 13 contestant needs no introduction, her fun personality and emotional openness stole the limelight, her bond with Siddharth Shukla was highly adored by the viewers. She is now an actress and singer, starring in films and music videos .
Udit Narayan Makes a Special Appearance in Color’s Heartwarming Drama, Mangal Lakshmi
Manu Punjabi and Manveer Gujjar the duo from Bigg Boss 10, where the concept of commoners entering the Bigg Boss House was introduced. Where Manveer Gujjar won the season leaving behind celebrities like Bani J, Rohan Mehra and Karan Mehra, Mannu Punjabi won the hearts of viewers with his game strategies, commitments towards his work and his bond with Manveer and Monalisa. Manu appeared as a guest contestant on other Bigg Boss seasons and runs his own Youtube chat show, Manveer became a household name after his win. He used his popularity to appear on TV shows and even tried his luck in politics.
Bigg Boss might not assure stardom, but it definitely gives contestants a fair chance to display their talent and connect with millions.
