‘Picture This’ Movie Review: A Lighthearted and Misfitted Template Rom Com

Bridgerton’ breakout star Simone Ashley leads the five dates away from finding ‘The One’ for her marriage plot with eccentric characters and brightly lit visuals in Amazon’s ‘Picture This’

Picture This

A talented photographer Pia (Simone) running a struggling portraiture studio is nearing 30s with a blaring alarm triggered by her Indian mom who has her life savings (obviously jewels) for her daughters that will be claimed for their marriage. The eldest daughter is following her dreams or rather her late grandmother’s falls short in life progression to her younger sister Sonal in comparison whose grand month long wedding is ahead.

A Pandit who plays the part of a sort of a visionary mystical character predicts Pia will meet her soulmate within her five dates has her family matching her with guys that they think will be a match but the stumbling artsy photographer meets her first and only live Charlie in the wedding as a Best Man tries to survive all these hurdles and find her The One.

For a massive breakout star like Simone Ashley who gathered global success and reach through the magical world of Bridgerton, a Ron Com is certainly a good choice but the coincidentally similar character of a spinster in her thirties who doesn’t believe in marriage and wants to pursue her career with progressive thoughts and has a younger sister who is over the moon for her marriage sounds eerily similar to Kathani Sharma’s character arc.

‘Picture This’ directed by Prarthana has everything a classic Romba Com has – two charming leads, British men with dimples playing potential matches, a self assured independent woman from a messy family and her gay best friend. But what conjures out of this equation is a mismatched diluted version of a NRIs nightmare story that is multi focused concoction that is not career oriented inspiring plot or an emotional family centred Romantic Comedy.

The Charming Hero Fiennes Tiffin plays Charlie who is seen so rarely shares a good chemistry with Simone Ashley that never sprouts into a proper romance. Such missed and flat, overexposed bright visuals make up for a decent watch.

‘Picture This’ has this lighthearted appeal for the Rom Com lovers who want to munch a movie along their dinner that neither disappoints nor impresses. One for the bag, a speck in the sea of options to stream on Amazon Prime Video
