A prominent Bollywood star recently opened up about her painful dating experience. Vidhya Balan, often hailed as the ‘hero’ of her movies, and The Indian Express engaged in a deep conversation for their latest six-part series named ‘Expresso’.

The Indian Express group, Taj Hotels and HSBC have come together for a unique platform – The Indian Express ‘Expresso’ – in an effort to create content that is “eclectic, intimate, intelligent and fun”, inviting personalities from sphere of art, culture and entertainment.

Speaking at the recent event held at Taj Lands End in Mumbai, Balan recollected a painful incident, sharing: “I have been cheated on. The first boy I dated cheated on me and I have to tell you he was just an a**.” She said the incident crushed her spirit.

‘He crushed me that day’: Vidhya Balan’s latest interview

The star added: “I remember we had just broken up and I bumped into him in college on Valentine’s Day and he turned around and said that ‘I am just going to meet my ex-girlfriend for a date’. And I was like what? He literally crushed me that day.

Balan also highlighted during the conversation that she was not a “serial dater”. Reflecting on her past relationships, she said: “I dated a few men but thankful my first serious long relationship was to the man I am married to.”

The actress has been married to the love of her life and prominent film producer Siddharth Roy Kapur since 2012. The founder of Roy Kapur Films, Kapur is the former managing director of The Walt Disney Company India and the former president of the Producers Guild of India.

‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’ stars talk life at The Indian Express ‘Expresso’

The Indian Express ‘Expresso’ is a series of moderated informal and candid conversations featuring an interesting mix of audience, including celebrated dignitaries and influencers. It seeks to “turn the mundane exciting and the regular extraordinary”.

The first part of the series featured Balan and Pratik Gandhi as guests. The actors are part of their upcoming movie ‘Do Aur Do Pyaar’, expected to hit the big screen on Friday. It is directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta, in her directorial debut.

The movie marks the first on-screen pairing of Balan and Gandhi. It is about a married couple who re-discover their relationship after cheating on each other. It has been produced by Sameer Nair, Deepak Segal, Tanuj Garg, Swati Iyer Chawla and Atul Kasbekar.

The Indian Express ‘Expresso’ is a live event of 60-90 minutes, also featuring an open audience Q&A. The debut event in Mumbai saw the guests engaging in a deep conversation about life, career, marriage and all things love in front of an audience of over 100 guests.
