Tickets for the first two shows, on January 18th and January 19th, went on sale on Sunday at 12 PM on the BookMyShow website. Due to high demand for the tickets, Coldplay had to include a third performance on the 21st of January. Tickets for this new show were available from the same day at 2 pm. On September 22, 2024, millions of excited fans virtually lined up on the website of BookMyShow to get tickets for the British band’s concert that was scheduled after eight years. However, the ticket sale was not without its problems with many users complaining that the site crashed as they attempted to book tickets for the shows that were slated for January 18, 19 and an extra show added for January 21.
The fans voiced their concern on the social media platforms. Another user said, “Was on the @BookMyShow application the whole afternoon just to be stuck with nothing in the end. The waitlist was over 300k!” Another shared a screenshot of their app where the app was still loading as they captioned it ‘This is what heartbreak looks like’. #ColdplayIndia.”
Tour Dates and Venue

- Venue: DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai
Scalping Concerns
The frenzy also saw touts selling tickets to other unauthorized platforms at exorbitant prices much to the detriment of the fans. In response, BookMyShow released a statement regarding these scams and asked fans to be aware of such activities. Ticket racketeering is unlawful in India and attracts the wrath of the law they noted while urging fans to purchase tickets only from BookMyShow.
It was the talk of the town and social media was flooded with comments. A fan wrote, ‘@coldplay, while we are stuck in long lines, sites such as Viagogo are taking advantage of us!’ A question that may be asked is why do we not purchase directly from the source? One of them said, “It is sad to see that the fans are exploited during these moments of enthusiasm.” This is what people say; we just want to see our favorite band!
The tickets were in high demand, and BookMyShow had to introduce a third show shortly after the first tickets were put up for sale. A representative said, “Due to the massive influx of users, we introduced a queueing system to cope with the load and responded to problems triggered by questionable access in a matter of minutes.” However, due to the issues with the server, many fans were left disappointed with the experience.
Social Media reaction
Coldplay, we are coming, says the caption of a video shared by the person’s friend, Likhit Grandhi, on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, the person excitedly says, “Yes, yes. I got the ticket,” while dancing happily. The camera then shows two more laptops, suggesting that three friends were all trying to get tickets online. At the end of the video, he takes off his slippers and holds them while dancing with joy.
