In a Galaxy far far away, fans are still hungry for the return of their favourite franchise, now on board thanks to Lucasfilm and Disney, who have roped in Simon Kinberg to direct and produce another Star Wars Trilogy. The news broke out after a Deadline exclusive said the trio is planning on reviving the franchise that is dormant after 2019, with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Simon Kinberg who has worked previously in the Star Wars universe in one of the fan favourites, Star Wars Rebels as a co-writer, the Emmy – nominated animated series that ran for four years. Kinberg will helm the planned trilogy which will comprise of episode 10 – 12 of The Skywalker Saga as 2019 release covered episode 9.
An insider from Deadline reported that Lucasfilm and Kinberg will work on a new plot, following the franchise as he is known in the past for incorporating ideas with J. J. Abrams directed Episode 7: The Force Awakens back in 2015. Contrary to many sources, this new trilogy will cover a new saga inside the beloved galaxy, thrilling the fans.
It’s been a busy year for Simon Kinberg who produced the two part Deadpool films starring Ryan Reynolds while also being associated with Paramount’s Star Trek movie financially. Being no stranger to the world of franchises as Kinberg’s filmography includes the launch of Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, and the intensive years working on the X- Men universe and a Logan Spinoff apart from the Agatha Christie trilogy and many more.
The Star Wars universe keeps expanding with ongoing projects including a Jedi saga directed by James Mangold, Taika Waititi’s close- fisted Star Wars project, a Sharmeen Obaid- Chinoy’s creation of Daisy Ridley’s Rey. These projects are in line only after the highly foreseen ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ film, directed by Jon Favereu, sketched for release on May 22, 2026.
