Netflix stunned fans in a recent social media post as the streaming giant shared a short clip of the ‘You’ star sitting in front of a black background, greeting fans using the iconic line from ‘Gossip Girl’ – “Hello, Upper East Siders.”
Penn Badgley returning the favour
Penn Badgley is making a special appearance in ‘Nobody Wants This‘ – starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody – by narrating a scene in the hit series. The drama is getting a second season and ‘You’ shall air its final season on Netflix next month.
“Hello, Upper East Siders” is the signature greeting of the anonymous, omnipresent narrator in ‘Gossip Girl’. This phrase is used to describe the rich and privileged teenagers of the Upper East Side in NYC, the US.
In the clip shared by Netflix, Penn recalled that in the ‘Gossip Girl’ finale, Kristen had lent her voice to his character, Dan Humphrey, and that it is time to return the favour. Then, a brief clip of Kristen and Adam’s characters enjoying a peaceful moment together plays.
Penn Badgley describes the friend zone
“You cannot be serious – eating ice cream together,” Penn narrates, describing the friend zone as “usually a cold, dark place – perfect for burying your feelings in frozen delicacies by the shoveful – but this is torture.”
Penn’s signature calm tone is priceless. He then reflects on the situation, admitting that it is tough to let go if there is a chance that the other person might feel the same. Kristen and Adam’s characters have their first kiss in the scene. Oops, spoiler alert.
