Oscars 2025 Shortlist Announced: Know Here Who Are Making Wave In the World of Global Cinema

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) recently released the list of movies that are shortlisted for the Oscars 2025. The films all over the world are categorized into different groups. The most interesting part is that a Hindi language international film set in rural northern India called Santosh has been selected in the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category. You will be astonished to note that 15 films have been selected for the Oscar shortlist in this category out of the 85 films from all over the globe.

Santosh (a story of an Indian young widow) was an official entry from the UK for the Oscars 2025. Wondering why is this film among the top contenders of the International Feature Film category? Well, the film directed by Sandhya Suri who is an NRI, is about a young widow who decides to take over her late husband’s police constable job. The story talks about the courage of the lead character played by Shahana Goswami who fights with the existing corruption in the system to solve a murder case of a teenage girl. When the film debuted at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May 2024, Santosh earned positive reviews.

Unfortunately, India’s official entry to the Oscars Laapataa Ladies, which is directed by Kiran Rao didn’t make it to the shortlisted movies. “Laapataa Ladies did not make it to the Academy Awards shortlist this year, and we are, of course, disappointed. However, we are deeply thankful for the incredible backing and belief we’ve experienced throughout this journey,” read the official statement by Aamir Khan Productions
