Disney’s long running and successful franchise grew bigger with the release of ‘Mufasa – The Lion King’ that was released in theatres in December 2024. The movie follows the titular character, ‘Mufasa’ who is an orphaned cub lost in the wetlands where he meets Taka, a royal heir and their journey in the wild. A younger Mufasa’s journey is narrated by the comical duo – Timon and Pumbaa.

Mufasa is a musical drama with the titular character dubbed by Aaron Pierre and follows how the future king struggles to step up with his responsibilities yet finds his way to become a reliable king. As the 2019 film grossed over 1 Billion USD, the 2024 prequel although facing tough competitions during release, Disney had a huge run recently culminating 700 Million USD with – Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out and Mufasa.
Directed by the ‘Moonlight’ creator Barry Jenkins, ‘Mufasa – The Lion King’ has a familiar reception among the young fans who love the premise of the jungle and fallen in love with the brilliant depiction of the animals. With a strong history and call backs from the prior ‘Lion King’ movies, the prequel follows the rise of the beloved king Mufasa. It is evident how much the family audience have loved the movie that outranked its competitors and bagged 712.7 Million USD in the theatrical release which leaves the question and curiosity for the upcoming musical release, ‘Snow White’.
After a 96 days theatrical release, ‘Mufasa – The Lion King’, is all set to stream on Disney+ on 26 March 2025.
