The mother of the current South Korean most sought-after actress Han So Hee has been on the wrong side of the law once again. Ms. Shin, 50 years old, has been charged with running 12 illicit gambling businesses in different cities in South Korea since 2021 after being arrested on September 2, 2024. Ms Shin aged 50 was arrested for her suspected involvement in the operation of unlawful gambling businesses in the year 2021. Sources indicate that she hired “proxy owners” to operate these facilities in several cities of the country such as Ulsan and Wonju. Some of the patrons visited a gambling site run by Ms. Shin for the purpose of playing games such as baccarat. Such a complex operation makes one wonder how many violations of the law she committed and whether this will affect Han So Hee’s reputation.
The timing of the arrest is quite strategic since it takes place a few weeks before the release of Han So Hee’s new drama series called ‘Gyeongseong Creature Season 2’ which is set to air on September 27th, 2024. Ms. Shin who accused Han So Hee of assault and defamation filed a lawsuit against her in 2021 but later withdrew the lawsuit due to fraudulent activities. These were such as using a bank account, which he created under Han So Hee’s name to take a loan without her consent when she was a minor. A civil trial later on dismissed the claims that Han So Hee was liable for her mother’s debts.
Han So Hee herself has mentioned that she tried to pay back her mother’s debts before her debut as an actress and she was surprised to know about the loans that were taken in her name. These incidents have placed the actress in a very awkward situation of having to juggle her rising career and family problems.

In connection with the recent arrest, on September 3, 2024, 9ato Entertainment issued a statement stating that Ms. Shin’s actions have no relation to Han So Hee. The agency said that the actress got to know about the incident through the news and was heartbroken when she read the news.
This never ending story is an example of the difficulties of the celebrities to balance their private life and their careers when family problems occur.
