The Return of a Legendary Saga
The “Gladiator II” trailer starts with a look at the life of Lucius, a son of Lucilla and a nephew of the evil Commodus from the first movie. From Rome, Lucius is exiled to Numidia in North Africa but his heart yearns for Rome and it is in this city that he has to redefine his life in the presence of great heroes. A New Hero Emerges
Paul Mescal takes on the spotlight as Lucius, a character who is living under the shadow of Maximus Decimus Meridius portrayed by Russell Crowe in the original film. The trailer suggests how Lucius went from being an exile to the arena and becoming a great gladiator. Lucius, played by Djimon Hounsou, is guided by Macrinus, played by Denzel Washington and must therefore find it within himself to fight in the gladiatorial games and learn the truth about his lineage.
Epic Battles and Political Intrigue
The trailer was directed by Ridley Scott, who has a great vision for the movie and the audience can expect to see some of the most elaborate action scenes ever filmed. From one on one fighting to one on thousand, it seems as if the movie “Gladiator II” is going to be even bigger than the first part. Woven into these elaborate action sequences, however, are suggestions of multiple layers of political scheming and individual retribution, which should maintain viewers’ attention.
Even the trailer gives brief peeks of the other characters such as Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn, which adds another layer to the story. Connie Nielsen returns as Lucilla and is training her son in the politics of Rome and the games of the colosseum.
