With only a week remaining before the highly awaited Hindi action-cop-thriller/entertaining drama film Baby John gets released in theatres, audiences’ and fans’ anticipation is at an all-time high. The makers already created intrigue with the well-etched character look posters, fiery teaser trailer, foot-tapping songs, and an impactful trailer that teases viewers but leaves them wanting more.

Acclaimed actor Varun Dhawan’s transformation in B-town from being a commercial global star to a versatile performer

After winning the hearts of audiences and viewers, the cast of Baby John and the makers interacted with the media at the special meet-and-greet event in Mumbai.

Varun Dhawan talking about the spine-chilling subject of the film Baby John:

During the media interaction, answering a question about the film’s subject being extreme and goosebumps-invoking, Varun Dhawan shared, “When we were performing certain scenes while filming, I used to break down. The issue we are trying to show and the case we deal with is hard-hitting and spine-chilling. But, it comes across in a very commercial way. But, in a commercial film, I do not think this type of case has ever been depicted in such a well-etched and gripping manner in any Hindi film to date. I can guarantee that when that chapter comes within the film, it will shake up people inside out. Certain scenes within that chapter of Baby John had shaken me. I have never gone so extreme in Hindi films so far.”

Talking about how he was thankful that Aamir Khan gave his Christmas release date for Baby John, Varun added, “You need strong backing and support to come out in theatres, especially in the uncertain times today. We are lucky and thankful to Aamir sir for giving us the date. Because of this, we could release the film on this date. I always wanted my films to get a massive theatrical release on Christmas, and with Baby John, it has become a reality.”

Talking about the experience of working with Salman Khan for Baby John, Varun exclaims, “Working and collaborating with Salman Khan sir was a wonderful experience. In today’s generation of Instagram reel collaboration, we are lucky enough to have a proper film cameo collaboration with Salman sir, which was so good.”

Atlee on how Baby John is a message-driven and entertaining drama film:

Atlee finally opened up about how the film not only strives to give out a message. But it is also an entertaining and commercial drama film that will be loved by both the masses and critics. Explaining the same Atlee adds, “I want the same love that viewers showered on Jawan to continue and get the cinema audiences in theatres for Baby John as well. Baby John is a massy and total masala entertainer film. Every member of the family has something to take away from Baby John. It’s a clean message conveying entertainment film that has a mix of emotions and acting performances as well.”

Filmmaker Kalees opens up about how Baby John is an adaptation of the original film but not a remake:

While talking about how Baby John is a re-imagined adaptation of the original Tamil hit film Theri but is not a remake at all, ace filmmaker Kalees shares, “Actually, when you are adapting a film, you should not lose its juice and essence, but rather, create something more brilliant and more than that. It is an old film from almost 7 to 8 years ago and close to Atlee Sir’s heart. So, when I am updating something, it should not hurt his sentiments. When I write the script, I start from the 4, but conceptualize it in a way that will connect with 3 and 5 and the rest of the important subplots and themes within the film.”

Opening up on how the film is a massive commercial entertainer masala movie that blends action with emotions, Kalees added, “It is a commercial entertaining film with such a good message. The original Tamil hit Theri also had action, with the emotional quotient of the baby, mother, father, scenes, and drama. So, in Baby John, all these elements are there, but we have updated everything. The dramatic and immersive scenes and high-octane action sequences are mind-blowing as we have used a lot of foreign action directors for the same. The way Varun sir did, no one can match that action.”

Giving a hint for how Jackie Shroff’s menacing avatar as the antagonist in the film will be the highlight and show-stealer performing moment, Kalees said, “We changed the complete perspective of the villain. The villain is completely changed. When we started writing, we started by writing the character for Jackie Shroff Sir. When he became more powerful, the hero became more powerful. It is the main crux of the story. As we started writing distinctively, everything changed. The sweetness of the film is intact. However, the drama in the story around Jackie Shroff is just new. It is why, if you see the fourth and seventh reels, which are the interval and then the climax scene of the film, it is bound to make you feel different emotions inside out.”

Wamiqa Gabbi on how working in the film was such a fulfilling and best experience that got her into the commercial zone:

Opening up on how she felt so thrilled and overjoyed to be a part of Baby John, the film that got her into the mainstream commercial film space, Wamiqa stated, “It is true that this world is different compared to the movies or series that I have been a part of before. I was very excited. We Indians have grown up watching commercial and larger-than-life films because watching these types of films is entertaining. Also, it is unique when compared to your daily life. For those few hours in a theatre, you forget your daily troubles and enjoy being a part of that created fictional world. So, it had been a dream of mine to be a part of such a film that is larger than life. I am so blessed and elated to get a chance in such a massive film. With Atlee sir as the producer and this dream cast, I am so enthusiastic that I have made a gigantic jump now, and that too with this film. My perspective for the scenes and characters was very distinctive.”

Keerthy Suresh on her experience of working in the film and more:

Opening up on how she is grateful to Atlee for giving her this clutter-breaking role in Baby John and also sharing her experience of working with her co-stars Varun and Wamiqa, Keerthy Suresh said, “It’s one of my favorite characters in my entire career so far. Atlee, thank you for giving me this character and role in your production. Varun has a different type of energy as an actor, which will be visible in the film. Wamiqa is a nuanced performer on the screen. I have seen her work in Godha.”
