Google doodle is paying a tribute to India’s beloved singer Krishnakumar Kunnath aka KK today. On this day in 1996, the late artist made his debut as a playback singer on the song ‘Chhod aaye Hum’ and successfully made himself immortal among global music enthusiasts.
KK’s soulful voice defined a generation. His songs carried emotions of love, friendship and even heartbreak. The lyrics he gave his voice to have been a part of countless college events, love stories and memories cherished by millions.
Even though KK died at the age of 53 a couple of years ago in Kolkata, he remains immortal in the hearts of his fans. Over his career spanning three decades, KK sang more than 500 songs in Hindi and over 200 in Telugu, Bengali, Kannada and Malayalam.
KK dies after an energetic performance in Kolkata
India’s beloved artist Krishnakumar Kunnath has been the recipient of several accolades. He never received formal music training – a fact that makes his natural talent even more remarkable. He is prominent for his versatility, recording songs in several Indian languages.
On May 31, 2022, KK died soon after an energetic live performance in Kolkata. On that day, the ‘Tadap Tadap Ke’ singer reportedly felt extreme fatigue and pain in his arms even before the programme began. During the concert too, he complained of ‘feeling heavy’.

KK collapsed in his hotel after the event. He’s rushed to the hospital but doctors declared him dead. Initially, they said of a massive cardiac arrest. The post-mortem report later revealed that he had serious lung and liver conditions, besides prolonged cardiac issues.
Hypoxia – health condition that claimed KK’s life
Let’s understand the condition that took Krishnakumar Kunnath’s life. ‘Hypoxia’ means the body or a certain part of it is not receiving sufficient oxygen. People having existing lung diseases can be at risk of the condition. Even COVID can put you at risk of hypoxia.
In KK’s case, the post-mortem report explained that his heart could not pump satisfactorily, consequently causing a build-up of fluids in his lungs. It eventually became harder for the singer to breathe, resulting in hypoxia.
The health condition is linked to a number of different symptoms, including headache, rapid heart rate, slo heart rate, extreme restlessness, bluish skin, confusion, anxiety, difficulty in breathing, shortness of breath and bluish skin.
