India’s two of the most famous and celebrated epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata are constant subjects of many creative processes, even in juxtaposing modern contemporary plots. ‘Ramayana’ is currently in the works helmed by director Nitesh Tiwari and just got bankrolled by Namit Malhotra’s DNEG company.
The ‘Dangal’ director has proceeded with the works of ‘Ramayana’ with a cast and crew that is widely accepted by the audience from the rumored phase. The project is now official with the announcement of the movie being made in two parts and Part 1 releasing for Diwali, 2026 while the second part planned for releasing on Diwali of 2027.
The official poster depicts a piercing arrow, backdropped by a mesmerizing image of the universe. The story and screenplay for the film is written by Shridhar Raghavan while the production is backed by the global sensation Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios. Namit Malhotra has had a fruitful run in Hollywood with the likes of ‘Inception’, ‘Dune’ and the 2024 ‘Garfield’.
The poster and release dates were announced by the producer with a caption, “More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen. And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our “RAMAYANA”– for people across the world”

Fans are thrilled with the news with some questioning the need of two parts for the epic that had had several adaptations. The main cast alone is confirmed by different sources while the rest of the cast and crew are yet to be declared. Ranbir Kapoor is helming as ‘Lord Rama’ while Sai Pallavi will be seen as ‘Sita’ and the most exciting casting according to fans is with the ‘K.G.F’ star Yash in the role of ‘Ravan’.
