Indian actor and dancer Mithun Chakraborty who has acted in over 350 movies in his career spanning nearly 40 years is all set to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke award. Vishwas has acted in more than forty films and rose to fame with the National Award-winning film ‘Mrigaya’ in 1976. Chakraborty will be presented with this honor during the 70th National Film Awards presentation on October 8, 2024. This prestigious award is quite befitting for him since he has made a significant impact in the Bollywood and Bengali movies industry. Chakraborty, looking visibly emotional over the honor, thanked everyone with all his heart and thanked his family and fans across the world.

Mithun Chakraborty who is well known as the icon of self-made actors in the Indian movie industry was overwhelmed with feelings when he got the news of getting the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Mithun said that he had no words to express his emotions on the incident. I also cannot laugh or cry due to happiness. I had never thought that I would receive such a prestigious award and I am from the streets of Kolkata. I feel this way because it is an award I have worked so hard for throughout my years of practice. It’s dedicated to my family and fans since they have been supportive throughout the different stages of my life. His response touches on his story and growth from nothing to stardom.

There has been euphoria especially after Chakraborty was awarded the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and people from all walks of life including politicians and his family have congratulated him. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Mithun through Twitter describing him as a cultural icon who has inspired generations with his versatile acting. He congratulated Mithun for his performances in Indian films and wished him good luck. Namashi Chakraborty, Mithun’s son also congratulated his father and said that his success is an inspiration for millions of people. Namashi said his father was a ‘self-made superstar’ and that he and his family were thrilled about this accolade.

A Storied Career Of Iconic Performances
The cinematographic journey of Mithun Chakraborty commenced with the art movie ‘Mrigaya” in 1976 directed by Mrinal Sen for which he received the first National Award for Best Actor. This laid the foundation for a highly acclaimed movie-making career that followed. Mithun became a star in the 1980s with movies like Disco Dancer, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki and made himself a household name. His dancing in Disco Dancer made him an international star; he is popularly known as the Disco King. In his career, Mithun acted in more than 100 movies, and he is now one of the most famous and diverse actors in India. He shifted his ground from Bollywood to Bengali movies and then shifted to television, most prominently as a judge for the dance talent hunt show Dance India Dance.
