Bollywood’s leading director, Karan Johar, and Bollywood’s leading actress, Rani Mukerji, have been invited to present at the Australian Parliament House. The grandiose ceremony is scheduled for 13 August 2024. It is coming right after the recently signed India-Australia Co-Production Treaty and shall actually be a precursor to the 15th edition of IFFM. The two are expected to give a speech on the bit of cinema being a universal language, capable of bringing people together from all over the world.
Bollywood comes to Canberra
The fact that Karan Johar and Rani Mukerji were called to present speeches at the Parliament House in Australia proves that Indian cinema has reached the international stage. Their presence in this kind of formal event itself marks the diplomatic and cultural value of Indian cinema on the international plane, since both are icons of Bollywood.
Karan Johar is a director, producer, talk show host and fashion icon of the Indian cinema, who has directed such films as ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ and ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. Dharma Productions which is the production house headed by him has helped in giving platform to many talents and has revolutionized the commercial cinema of India.
Rani Mukerji has been in the industry for more than twenty years and she has proved herself to be one of the most talented actresses of Bollywood. Some of her movies are “Black”, “Hichki”, “Mardaani”, and “Bunty Aur Babli.” Rani Mukerji is one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood who has won many awards and has been appreciated by critics.
IFFM 2024
The 15th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is scheduled to commence from August 15, 2024 and is going to be a spectacular event of Indian cinema. The films to be presented in this year’s festival will include a colorful representation of the Indian society and the talent of the Indian filmmakers.
Some of the activities that the attendees are likely to be treated to include; Movie marathons involving both commercial movies and art house productions. The festival will also include panels, master classes, and question and answer sessions with such movie stars and directors. There are also plans for special screenings of Indian film masterpieces as well as retrospectives to give the spectator a complete picture of the development of the Indian motion picture industry.
Dates, Venue, and Celebrity Attendees
IFFM 2024 will be from 15th – 30th August, 2024, with events on several venues in Melbourne. The performances for the Awards Night will be based at Hamer Hall, Arts Centre Melbourne.
