The IIFA Awards which are the epitome of the promotion of Indian cinema around the world has revealed the much-awaited 2024 nominees list. This 24th edition of the awards features the best of Bollywood with ‘Animal’ starring Ranbir Kapoor leading the pack with 11 nominations. Just trailing behind is the Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ which has received 10 nominations. Both ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’ which are Shah Rukh Khan’s much-awaited comeback movies have garnered 7 nominations in the Popular Category. The nominations therefore present a mix of serious themed movies, comedies, romance, action, and drama to capture the best of Indian movies produced in the previous year.
The Nominees and Their Contenders
‘Animal’ directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga has taken the lead with 11 nominations in total including Best Picture, Direction and Performance in Leading Role for Ranbir Kapoor. This is evident in the nomination received by the film showing how it has influenced the audiences and the critics.
‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ , which is Karan Johar’s directorial comeback, comes close with 10 nominations. The film has got nominations in almost all the categories such as the best picture, direction and best performance in leading roles for both Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. SRK’s action-oriented two films ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’ have been nominated for 7 each and hence represents his action-packed year. These are in the categories of Best Picture, Direction and Performance in a Leading Role (Male) for Khan in ‘Jawan’.
Other mentions worth mentioning are Vikrant Massey’s ‘12th Fail’ which has five nominations and ‘Sam Bahadur’ starring Vicky Kaushal which has made it to the nominations in important categories.
Diversity In Nominations
The list of nominees for IIFA 2024 presents the range of Indian films, which can be of different genres and size. From blockbusters to action movies to small drama films, the nominations prove that the industry has great potential.
The Performance in a Leading Role (Female) category has the big stars such as Rani Mukerji in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ and Deepika Padukone in ‘Pathaan’ and newcomers. The Supporting Role categories include the legendary actors such as Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi for ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’

The Music Direction category focuses on the importance of music in Indian films with Pritam, Vishal-Shekhar, and Anirudh Ravichander nominated for their work in some of the year’s chartbusters.

With the IIFA Awards set to hit the Silver Jubilee in 2025, the 24th edition is all set to be a grand affair for Indian cinema. The awards have always been used to present Indian films to a global audience and thereby spread Indian films across the world.
