Kareena Kapoor's "The Buckingham Murders" Faces Slow Start at Box Office

The streaming platform Netflix that recently released “The Buckingham Murders“, directed by Hansal Mehta, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan has initiated an interesting discussion on X (Twitter). Premiering on 8th November 2024, the movie was only available in Hindi on Netflix India which viewers found bad dubbing to the extent of interrupting the movie.

One of the posts shared by a user on X showed that a user shared his disappointment over the dubbing by saying,  “I started watching #TheBuckinghamMurders but the Hindi dubbing is so bad. I couldn’t go beyond a few mins… Watching all the Brits speak in Hindi makes it sound so artificial.”. Other people also expressed similar concerns regarding the dubbed Hindi version of the show.

To the criticism, Hansal Mehta quickly apologized and stated that the original language version was on its way. He said that because of the technical problem, Netflix India had at first only uploaded the Hindi version which was causing discomfort to viewers because it was dubbed.  “Due to a technical error on the service, @NetflixIndia will be uploading the original language version in a few hours. Thank you for your patience. And yes, it can be quite irritating to watch a dubbed version of the film. Apologies,” Mehta responded.

“The Buckingham Murders”, a dark thriller, was originally released in two versions: one as a mix of English and Hindi (80% English and 20% Hindi) and the second fully dubbed Hindi. But the absence of a Hinglish show on Netflix India has disappointed many of its fans as it felt rather awkward to watch British characters conversing in Hindi.

Jasmeet Bhamra played by Kareena Kapoor Khan is a British Indian detective who investigates the brutal murder of a ten-year-old child in a small English town. Kareena is seen with an intense role also she debuted as a producer for the first time along with Shobha and Ekta Kapoor. The theatrical release of the film was on September 13, 2024, after being showcased at the 67th BFI London Film Festival in October 2023. The cast includes faces along with Keith Allen, Ranveer Brar, Sarah Jane Dias, Prabhleen Sandhu, Sanjeev Mehra, etc making this thrilling movie even stronger.

For now, the Indian audience waits desperately for the release of the Hinglish dubbed version on Netflix India which they expect would be closer to its original flavor. Mehta’s quick response to viewer feedback showcases his commitment to delivering a quality viewing experience, reaffirming the importance of language authenticity in storytelling.
