Dalljiet Kaur and Nikhil Patel love story appeared to be straight out of a fairytale. After being the wife to actor Shalin Bhanot for eight years and getting a divorce, Dalljiet met her new lover Nikhil, an investment banker in Kenya. They got married on March 18, 2023, in a conventional Indian style wedding in Mumbai which was well attended by family and friends including other celebrities. The couple appeared beautiful, Dalljiet was looking like a princess in white lehenga and Nikhil was in a sherwani.
The union seemed to be a perfect match of families as Dalljiet Kaur’s son Jaydon met Nikhil’s daughters Aariyana and Aanika and the family shifted to Kenya. For a while, it looked like Dalljiet had found happiness after her earlier marriage did not work out.
Symptoms of Trouble and Public Outcries
The first indications of the crisis were seen in February 2024 when Dalljiet started erasing all the pictures related to the wedding from her social accounts and changed her Instagram name, erasing Nikhil’s last name. This came shortly after she had gone back to India with her son in January, raising many eye-brows over the state of their marriage.
The matter reached a boiling point in May when Dalljiet used her Insta-story to accuse Nikhil of cheating on her. One day she came with a post that was so hostile, accusing her husband of shamelessly parading around on social media with another woman. Dalljiet also disclosed that she along with her son moved back to India only after 10 months of the wedding implying the humiliation that her family had to go through.
Legal Battles and Conflicting Narratives
When the split became more and more known to the public, both were keen on expressing their stories. Nikhil in an interview said that their wedding was only an informal wedding and was only conducted to calm down Dalljiet’s family after she relocated to Kenya. He said that Dalljiet was finding it difficult to live in Kenya and that she went back to India, which he regarded as the breakup of the marriage.
It did not take long for the conflict to be taken to the legal level. Nikhil, therefore, wrote to Dalljiet informing her to come and remove her property from his house in Kenya. In response to this, Dalljiet went back to Kenya and sought a stay order to bar Nikhil from ejecting her, her son or their property from the house.
This case is still in the courts and the two parties to this matter are really in a state of war. Dalljiet has been supported by fellow celebrities, and Karishma Tanna went to social media to blast Nikhil for his actions.
