Why is the Emergency movie delayed? Postponed reason

Actress Kangana Ranaut is playing the lead character of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film Emergency. But its release is being delayed after failing to meet the certain criterias of the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC). It is yet to get a no objection certificate from the board. Although this is the situation, the actress is now hopeful that the film would be released within a span of 10 days.

Reaction from Sikh Community;

Certain members of the Sikh community have objected to the portrayal of them, filing petitions against the film and requesting a complete ban on screening the film at the theatres and online.

According to sources, the Queen star, who is also an MP from the BJP side, is deeply concerned about the release of the film and wants it to be out in the theatres as soon as possible. The source said, “Emergency has been postponed. Kangana is hopeful that it meets the release date in the next 10 days. The new date is being locked due to censorship issues and also the death threats being issued at her. The actor wants the film to be released as soon as possible without any further delay.”

Statement from Kangana Ranaut;

In an interview, Kangana expressed her disappointment about how the board and the audience has received the film even before it’s being launched in the theatres by saying, “An emergency has been imposed on my film now. It’s a terrible situation. I am very disappointed with our nation and how things are unfolding here.”

She stated that the film is not the first that features the Emergency period on screen. She went on to say that Madhur Bhandarkar’s Indu Sarkar and Meghna Gulzar’s Sam Bahadur also have showcased the incident without contention from any community. She also went to question the actions of the censor board which had previously approved the film’s release but revoked it at the last moment following the filing of petitions from some individuals against the film and its makers.

“I’ve made this film with a lot of self respect, which is why CBFC can’t point out any contention. They’ve stalled my certificate, but I am determined to release an uncut version of the film. I will fight in court and release an uncut version of the film. I can’t show all of a sudden that Indira Gandhi died in her own home. I can’t show it like that.”

Objection from and demands of Sikh Committee

Objection was filed against the Minister of Parliament by The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and it has labelled the film as preaching Anti Sikh sentiments. Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the committee wrote a note dated August 21 on social media platform X, stating that Kangana has “often deliberately made expressions that provoke the sentiments of Sikhs”. He also raised questions against the CBFC and demanded an inclusion of a Sikh member on the board.
