Highlights
Tamil cinema’s sweetheart Dhanush has finally announced his new venture. He will be handling the camera for Idli Kadai, his 52nd outing as an actor, and his 4th as a director. Fans are already rushing to create buzz about this one. The film’s poster was revealed on X (formerly Twitter), where the news broke. Idli Kadai will be one of the most promising collaborations, thanks to the direction and acting of Dhanush along with music by GV Prakash Kumar. The complete cast of the movie and the full plot have not been revealed yet, but surely it is all set for a wide buzz-generating release.
Idli Kadai: A Glimpse into the Concept
Dhanush has shared the concept poster of Idli Kadai with a humble roadside shack set under a starry night sky. With this earthy rustic tone of the film, it captures something that aspires to reflect the viewers’ idea of what they are going to see. This minimalistic design shows the shopkeeper inside the shack while another character watches him, so it seems like an intimate, character-driven story. Though much of the plot is reserved, fans are quite excited about what Dhanush has planned for them with this innovative new project. The excitement of the actor who describes himself as being self-proclaimed, wrote “Om Namah Shivaya” along with folded hands and heart next to the comment, holds a special personal value to the film.

Idli Kadai will be produced by Wunderbar Films in association with the Dawn Pictures’ Aakash Baskaran. Kiran Koushik will handle DOP for the film, and Prasanna GK has been approached for its editing. It is going to be a rocking product with this cast of production and Dhanush in the lead.
The career of Dhanush: From Ban to New Beginnings
Fresh from that banishment, Dhanush is once again up with Idli Kadai. A temporary ban was imposed upon him by the Tamil Film Producers Council in early 2024, alleging that he was collecting advance payments from various projects that either got delayed or never got completed. That is taken care of as well and Dhanush agreed to return the money and do a film for Thenandal Films. With this controversy now behind him, Idli Kadai marks the first Tamil feature Dhanush produced since the ban was lifted, and it marked a comeback of sorts for this versatile actor-turned-director.
In the past couple of years, Dhanush has come out not only as a brilliant actor but also as a good filmmaker. The second directorial outing of Dhanush, Raayan which was also his 50th film as an actor saw his winning streak at the box office. Idli Kadai is expected to take it forward with the same rhythm and further establish himself as a major force in front and behind the camera.

What’s Next for Dhanush?
Other than Idli Kadai, Dhanush has many more intriguing films in the pipeline. He will be seen in the Kubera Telugu-Tamil bilingual film by Sekhar Kammula. Joined by Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna and Jim Sarbh this ensemble cast further speaks to Dhanush’s potential of gearing up to a multitasking space across languages and genres.
Another biopic Dhanush is working on is Maestro, a movie based on the life of music legend Ilaiyaraaja. Dhanush will also direct his third outing, Nilavukku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, an ensemble flick where Pavish, Anikha Surendran, and Priya Prakash Varrier will be seen. These projects exemplify versatility in the person of Dhanush as an actor, director, and teller of stories. He is one of the most talented people active in the Indian film industry today.
