Highlights
The long-awaited follow-up to the 1997 hit “Border” is getting incremental as Diljit Dosanjh joins the star-studded cast of the movie. Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan and now Diljit Dosanjh have been appreciated by the audience which has compared the team to a desi Avengers. The second part of the film directed by Anurag Singh which has been produced by JP Dutta is all set to take forward the tradition of patriotism. “Border 2” is expected to be another great film.
A Star-Studded Ensemble
Another big casting for “Border 2” is Diljit Dosanjh who has been added to the cast list of the sequel. The singer-actor decided to announce the pregnancy on Instagram through a voice over about the protection of the country. Sunny Deol who was in the first part of the movie welcomed Dosanjh to Battalion of #Border2 This comes after Varun Dhawan joined the team thus making it a star studded cast that has left fans eager for the movie.
The response to casting Dosanjh has been a positive one and the fans have shown their enthusiasm on social media. Some of the comments included expectations of a ‘blockbuster movie’ and even comparisons with the Avengers team as the star-studded cast for the movie was revealed. The makers have made some interesting casting decisions and it appears that the movie will feature a mix of familiar and fresh faces.
Behind the Scenes
The sequel titled “Border 2” is being directed by Anurag Singh while the first part of the movie was directed by JP Dutta in 1997. She however continues to serve as a producer alongside Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Nidhi Dutta. It is planned to start the shooting in October, 2024 and the plot is expected to follow the shooting battle of Longewala.
The decision of the production team to return to the Border saga after 27 years is therefore an indication that the movie was well received. The cast also features a combination of the original cast Sunny Deol and new age stars like Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh hence the producers seem to be targeting a whole new generation of audience while paying homage to the first movie.
Expectations and Legacy
Looking at “Border 2” as it goes to production, the pressure is on to perform even better than the first movie. The first Border released in 1997 was highly appreciated by the critics and the audiences and paved the way for films based on patriotic wars in India. It was a star-studded movie that had Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna and Sunny Deol in the lead role.
The sequel has been planned to release on January 23, 2026 which seems to be a planned positioning possibly to leverage on the patriotism associated with Republic Day celebrations.
