Bollywood Celebrities into Philanthropy – Stars who are reaching out to the common man

Shahrukh Khan is one of the leading Philanthropists in Bollywood. Here we see his past and present contributions to NGOs and Philanthropy.

King Khan is the most loved bollywood star in India and abroad. He has been referred to as the last superstar of the Indian Film Industry. Apart from his films, he is also known for charitable works. Shahrukh Khan owns an NGO named MEER Foundation and started it in 2013. 

The Meer Foundation works with and provides help to Acid Attack victims, slum children and women for their empowerment and upliftment. It is registered under the companies act 2013, and Income Tax  Act as a social NGO, and a charitable organisation respectively.

According to latest updates, the MEER Foundation along with other 174 NGOs got the central approval to get funds from foreign sources under the Foreign Contribution Registration Act (FCRA) licence for the next 5 years. 

SRK gave away $25000 in donations in 2018 relating to revival of flood victims in Kerala. 

The list also includes Indian Olympic boxer Mary Kom’s NGO Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation. 

Apart from Shahrukh Khan there are various other artists who are engaged in philanthropic activities. 

Shilpa Shetty

Starting her work from 1993, she went on to acting in the Hindi film industry and has done 50 films till now. Shilpa Shetty has been quite active for charitable causes and is involved with a number of organisations such as PETA that deals with animal rights. Along with that, she supported organisations like CRY, Act against Bullying, Heroes Project, Silver Star and has her own foundation by the name of Shilpa Shetty Foundation.

Salman Khan

Launching Being Human – The Salman Khan Foundation in 2007, Salman Khan is another Bollywood Heartthrob hero who donates money for humanitarian causes. His foundation works for education and health purposes. He has helped set up educational institutions in 2018 in Maharashtra that have provided education to 310 children in the local community. In 2013, Being Human provided 2500 water tanks to communities all over Maharashtra when the state was facing severe drought.

Akshay Kumar

Known for being the Top Earning Star by Forbes, Akhshay Kumar donated INR 1 crore to Assam Flood Victims in 2020 and another 1 crore to cyclone victims in Odisha in 2019 during Cyclone Fani. 

Rahul Bose

Being one of the most underrated actors in Bollywood, Rahul Bose runs a charitable foundation by the name The Foundation. He helped thousands of people during the 2004 Tsunami in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In 2008, his foundation launched Reach, by which he provides education to children in lower income households.
