Highlights
The much-awaited sequel of the 1997 war film Border is in the news now and some recent reports have surfaced which could turn out to be interesting in the Bollywood scenario. Earlier, there was buzz that Ayushmann Khurrana has been approached for the film but the actor has reportedly walked out of the project. This decision has been made in the backdrop of doubts over the star cast of the movie and the dominating personality of Sunny Deol who is going to continue from the previous part. With the announcement of the shooting of “Border 2” in the offing, there are debates on the cast and what the new movie under the direction of Anurag Singh will be like.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s Reported Decision
In a report that Midday published recently, Ayushmann Khurrana was on the verge of signing on for the role of a soldier in “Border 2” for several months. However, it has been said that the actor will not take the role anymore. The first and foremost reason stated for this decision is that Khurrana was not sure about where he stands in the large cast, especially with Sunny Deol, who is returning from the first part of the series.
The source quoted in the report said, “Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both Ayushmann and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his positioning in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, a towering star in his own right.” This new information gives some insight into the dynamics of casting in big Bollywood movies particularly those that feature big stars in major roles.
Rumors Over Diljit Dosanjh’s Participation
Despite some information that Ayushmann Khurrana could be a part of “Border 2”, there are new rumors concerning another actor-singer with many fans. The new twist about this movie is that the Punjabi actor cum singer, Diljit Dosanjh is expected to be a part of this movie but nothing of this kind has been confirmed till now.
The same source which talked about Khurrana’s choice also said, “Nothing has been finalized yet. But yes the makers have approached Diljit for the film. It would be fun to watch Diljit and Sunny together on the silver screen since both have a huge pulling power in North India.” If this casting happens it could open up a new market for the film in different zones of India.
“Border 2”: Production Details and Legacy
The second sequel of Border, “Border 2” was formally announced by Sunny Deol in June 2024 on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the first Border movie. The sequel is being made under the banner of T-Series and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta while the movie is directed by Anurag Singh. The plan is to start shooting in November of the year 2024.
The first “Border” was released in 1997 and it was well acclaimed both by critics and viewers and now it is considered to be one of the best Indian movies. Based on the backdrop of the 1971 India Pakistan war, it starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty and Akshaye Khanna. The film was appreciated for its patriotism, powerful performances and the music which was appreciated especially the songs like “Sandese Aate Hai”.
According to the news, ‘Border 2’ is set in the same historical background as the first film and it is about the Battle of Longewala. This setting seems to guarantee another powerful war movie, which may replicate the feeling and the spirit of the first film.
