On Tuesday, legendary Indian musical composer and record producer AR Rahman and his partner Saira Banu announced their separation after 29 years of marriage. He shared a joint statement on X, stating that “all things, it seems, carry an unseen end.”
Just hours later, Mohini Dey announced her separation from Mark Hartsuch. The bass player has performed alongside Rahman on multiple occasions. But things started going south as many netizens speculated that both announcements are connected.

The music composer’s legal representative Vandana Shah firmly denied any connection, highlighting that Saira and Rahman made the decision independently. The advocate also noted that the couple had not had discussions on financial matters.
On Saturday, Rahman’s legal team issued a notice to numerous people and entities operating on different social media platforms, accusing them of preparing defamatory and imaginary stories about the music composer’s personal life.

“My client instructs me to inform that there is no iota of truth in any of the programs, interviews attributing obscene contents thereby intending to harm the reputation of my client and also intended to be hurtful to his family,” the legal notice further read.
Rahman’s team has instructed “hatemongers and sharers of abusive contents to remove the objectionable content” in the next 24 hours. People or entities not adhering to the instructions could face fine and/or an imprisonment of a couple of years.
