It is a common fact that Bollywood churns out a large number of films every year, out of which some are blockbuster while many are regarded as failures. It is also important to understand that even the biggest stars of Indian cinema can also give flops. This article gives information on the top 10 bollywood actors with highest flop ratios, their background, issues, and reasons for having most of their movies as flop.

1. Mithun Chakraborty:

The list goes to Mithun Chakraborty who has the most number of flops in Bollywood ever. He acted in 267 films out of which 180 were considered flops or disasters, which makes his flop ratio 67. 4%. This is the story of Mithun, the rise and the fall and rise again of this great actor. Although he became a popular actor for his performances in dance oriented films, he acted in many B-grade films which did not perform well at the box office.

2. Jeetendra: 

The other veteran actor Jeetendra acted in 209 films in his career out of which only 106 were flops or disasters. This takes his flop ratio to 50. 7%. Jeetendra was famous for his dance numbers and his ability to work with actresses such as Sridevi and Jaya Prada and although he was able to work his way through successes as well as failures in the industry.

3. Dharmendra:

Dharmendra, one of Bollywood’s most popular action stars, has had a career that has had its share of triumphs and disasters. Among the 237 films, 99 films were rated as flop, so his flop ratio was 41/100. 8%. However, Dharmendra has to be one of the most popular heroes of Bollywood with legendary movies like Sholay and Phool Aur Pathhar to his credit.

4. Rishi Kapoor: 

Rishi Kapoor who was famous for his romantic movies had a number of films which failed at the box office. Of 125 films, 76 were commercial failures, which gives him a flop rate of 60 percent. 8%. Although Rishi Kapoor was able to give many memorable performances, especially in the romantic films, he also acted in many bad films.

5. Govinda:

Govinda, the man famous for his great comic timing and those groovy dance steps, has had his share of ups and downs in his career. He acted in 131 films and out of them 75 films were declared as flops, so his flop ratio is 57. 2%. However, he was able to strike gold with directors such as David Dhawan in the early 1990s and became one of the leading comedians of his time.

6. Sanjay Dutt:

Sanjay Dutt’s career has been a story, full of highs and lows. He has a flop ratio of 54 with 69 flops in 126 movies. 7%. Dutt has been seen taking up different roles, including those of an anti-hero and the comedian.

7. Amitabh Bachchan:

Not even the great Amitabh Bachchan, who is called the ‘Shahenshah’ of Bollywood, has not been immune to the failures. Among 150 films, 66 were failures and hence the failure ratio was 44%. However, there is no doubt that Bachchan has given his best to Bollywood and his mammoth roles and powerful acting makes him one of the legends of Indian cinema.

8. Vinod Khanna:

Vinod Khanna who was known for his good looks and a great screen presence has a flop rate of 48. 9%, that is, 64 out of 131 films they produced were unsuccessful. His career had its ups and down but his breakthrough performances in Amar Akbar Anthony and Mere Apne make him an icon.

9. Rajesh Khanna: 

The first superstar of Bollywood, Rajesh Khanna also tasted quite a number of flops in his career. Among 126 films, 55 films were considered as flops and hence the flop ratio was found to be 43. 7%. However, his stardom in late 1960 and early 1970 could not be compared to any other actor and the fans still cherish him for the romantic hero.

10. Anil Kapoor:

Some of the great actors of Bollywood include Anil Kapoor, who has also had his taste of flops. He produced 105 films out of which only 54 were box office hits and thus his flop ratio was 51. 4%.
