Pakistani musician Haniya Aslam, one-half of Zeb-Haniya, died at the age of 39 years due to cardiac arrest. The news of her demise was first shared by her cousin and former fellow band member, Zeb Bangash, through an Instagram post. She did playback for Alia Bhatt’s 2014 film, Highway.

Haniya Aslam Passes Away

Haniya was one of the most renowned vocalists in the Pakistani music industry. She formed a band, Zeb and Haniya, with Zeb Bangash. This proved to be the first all-woman band that originated from Pakistan. She was then discovered all across Pakistan for her soulful voice in Chal Diye for Coke Studio Pakistan. She moved to Canada in 2014 to continue her solo music career.

In an earlier interview, she had spoken about how their 2001 song “Chup” set the charts ablaze. During their lifetime, Zeb and Haniya had performed all over the world as well as collaborated with some big guns like AR Rahman for the song “Sooha Saaha” for Highway.

Fan Reactions

Reacting to the post, singer and lyricist Swanand Kirkire wrote, “WTF … what happend ? OMG” He later wrote a note on his X account and wrote, “My dear friend Haniya Aslam (from Zeb and Haniya) is gone. She had a cardiac arrest. Rest in peace dear Haniya.” 

Several fans reacted to the tragic news in the comment section of Zeb’s post and shared their condolences. One of the fans wrote: “Thanks for the music & the memories. Condolences. May she RIP & love & hugs to you, Zeb.” Another fan wrote, “Lost for words. just hoping shes singing with the angels.” Another added, “Her music shall live forever!! Sending out deepest condolences.” Yet another fan commented, “May she rest in eternal peace.”.

Haniya’s Musical Journey and Impact

Haniya Aslam began a musical career together with her cousin Zeb Bangash. They formed a band named Zeb and Haniya. This was huge, as they were the first all-woman band to come out of Pakistan. Haniya had that beautiful voice which uplifted and calmed the souls of people. Their 2001 song “Chup” became an instant hit. The song gave them recognition not only within Pakistan but internationally as well. She has sung many songs that all of us loved. One of her all-time famous songs was “Chal Diye” for Coke Studio Pakistan. It was through the show that more people came to hear her amazing voice.

Haniya and Zeb didn’t just sing in Pakistan. They went all over the world to perform their music. They even worked with big music makers like AR Rahman. Haniya helped make the song “Sooha Saaha” for an Indian movie called Highway. This showed how her talent was loved in different countries. In 2014, Haniya relocated to Canada and continued doing her music independently. Though away from home, she kept writing good songs that touched people’s hearts. 

Remembering Haniya: Her Legacy and Influence

Haniya Aslam died at the age of 39, an age far too young. Her songs, however, will live on. Haniya was much more than just a singer. She was the inspiration for innumerable other women in Pakistan that they, too, could be a musician. Her band with Zeb was special because of the fact that it was the first time two women had formed a band in Pakistan. This was a great history for women who played their music there. The songs of Haniya were loved due to the fact that they were very easy to listen to and had deep meanings. She sang things that are important to be sung on.

Her music gave happiness to lots of people and enabled them to feel good whenever they are low. Even though Haniya is gone, the songs will keep on playing. New singers in Pakistan look towards her and follow her. She proved that if a person works hard and has ability, one day he can win fame, honor, and please the people with one’s voice. Haniya’s life was short, but she left such an impression on the world of Pakistani songs that shall be remembered for many years.
