Shah Rukh Khan’s fan base is global with fans fawning over his charm, style and talent as he is one of the most recognisable actors all over the world. His career as an outsider is incomparable with distinctive characters over the years that really cement him as a bankable actor of Bollywood.
SRK’s career spanning more than 100 movies leads to a tiring job of ranking a Top 5 highest rated movies but the list curated by IMDb includes most of the fan favourites and critically acclaimed movies that are convincing.
1) Swades
Released in 2004, Swades, although opened with acclaims from critics and rave reviews from the public for the performance of Shah Rukh Khan, Gayathri Joshi and the direction by Ashutosh Gowrikar, was a financial failure. A film about a successful scientist who has returned to take his childhood caretaker back with him to America with a generic opinion about India stays only to be the change instead of waiting for the change to happen.

The movie about a derailed former hockey player Kabir Khan, also inspired by a real Indian hockey player was an absolute blockbuster both financially and critically. Kabir Khan joins as a new coach for the women’s hockey team with an unfortunate past that is partly political and religious, giving the space for a big star movie to talk about secularism and indifferences with gender, religion in the society.

The first reason being the unexpected story from the direction of Bollywood’s favourite romantic filmmaker Karan Johar who set a benchmark for himself while the other reason being the striking story that is layered with the themes of terrorism, generic labelling and the profound ideology that is not confined to India but on a global scale.
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
A movie that spawned several imitations, spoofs, tributes to its name till date, the 1995 Aditya Chopra film, ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’ is one of the most successful Indian films. The movie with Bollywood’s evergreen pair Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in their forte, the musical romantic movie is still popular for its unique approach to love.

Two Non- Indian immigrants having a very ‘Bollywood meet – cute’ while on a trip in Europe fall in love only to realise it later and separated not just geographically but by family hurdles too. A movie that taught the nation to follow one’s heart while also appealing to follow their traditions and norms.
