Fans worldwide were heartbroke as the immersive and addictive world of Westeros came to an end with Game of Thrones, only to be presented with a prequel series, ‘House of the Dragons’ shortly. Now the fans are eager for more, especially the readers community who are tirelessly demanding for a movie.
The showrunners of the popular HBO series ‘Game of Thrones’, David Benioff and Dan Weiss and the creator of the extraordinary universe George R.R. Martin was open to making the series as a movie years shortly after GoT. This enthusiasm was short lived as Warner Bros the parent company had contrasting thoughts regarding the property being made into a movie.
Recent reports from The Hollywood Reporter and the Deadline have suggested that Warner Bros. are silently working on the Game of Thrones Movie for a while. There are multiple sources reporting that it is fairly early stages for the movie to be decisive and that there are no talks currently with the cast and crew.
There is no denying that Warner Bros with the rights to George R. R. Martin’s book adaptations will let go of the universe to waste. The resistance towards making the famous universe into a movie came from HBO too, who were very keen on maintaining the clean and prestigious status of the Game of Thrones series as it is and not risk jinxing it with another spinoff.
The recent whispers about the potential making of the Game of Thrones Movie is due to the many changes in HBO’s executive positions and in Warner Bros, thus making space for a spinoff as their recent adaptations of popular franchises are well received. Spinoffs like ‘The Batman’ starring Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell’s ‘The Penguin’ and the upcoming The Dune: Prophecy are all the leading hopes for the recent rumours.
Upcoming Game of Thrones projects
HBO has planned for a series, a slice from the Game of Thrones franchise titled ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ that is set around 90 years before the ‘Game of Thrones’ plot and 100 years after the network’s 2022 adaptation ‘The House of the Dragons’. The upcoming project is chalked up for release in 2025.
