James Gunn’s recent casting of Alan Tudyk in the Superman reboot has undoubtedly excited a few fans. Given the current scenario, Tudyk is one addition to “Gods and Monsters” that is said to bring with it something new freshness and, maybe, some surprises. This Superman movie will come in 2025 with David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult playing this renowned villain Lex Luthor.
Aside from the plot details, though, Tudyk’s character has already begun raising some serious buzz. In a playful twist, Tudyk’s involvement broke after the actor himself humorously confirmed it on Threads. “Between you and me—I am playing Jimmy Olson’s French photographer friend, Bertrand ‘Bertie’ Muegler, who specializes in adult avant-garde snaps. He wears a cape but isn’t a superhero, just a fashion slut,” Tudyk teased, displaying the quirky humor that has become a fan’s delight.

It was a sassy confirmation of Gunn’s character-based, nonconformist approach to the DC universe by including Tudyk’s eccentricity. It’s interesting; this is not Tudyk’s first DC rodeo. Doctor Phosphorus, the character he is now voicing in the animated series “Creature Commandos,” arrives on Max this December. A siloed thing in the animated universe, Doctor Phosphorus’s work as a radioactive, almost spectral character remained. Gunn makes clear here that he’s interested in multidimensional casting, which means he can bring actors (Tudyk in this case) into the animated or live-action space and the person won’t contradict themselves.
Because of this flexibility, there has been speculation about character crossover possibilities in the storyline of DC’s ever-expanding universe. That, of course, adds fuel to the fire, as Tudyk himself has already worked for DC on shows including “Doom Patrol”, “Harley Quinn”, and “Young Justice”, so this isn’t his first rodeo when it comes to developing the comic adaptation side of things. His addition also gives DC even more depth and creative range for its new phase of story lines that will crossover between films, TV, and even animated series.
