A take from India on The Night Manager, with Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Sobhita Dhulipala, is nominated for an International Emmy drama series at the 2024 International Emmy Awards. This is the only one from India and the academy just announced its list of nominees on Thursday in New York.

A Global Stage for Indian Storytelling

It can be said that Indian television achieved a breakthrough when “The Night Manager” was nominated at the 2024 International Emmy Awards. It also proves that India can create content that has the potential to be appreciated all over the world as the only entry from India across all categories. The series is based on John le Carré’s novel and the above-said British series which was directed by Susanne Bier and stars Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, and Olivia Colman among others

When compared with “Les Gouttes de Dieu” a French show, “The Newsreader – Season 2” an Australian show, and “Iosi, El Espial Arrepentido Season 2” an Argentine show, the Indian adaptation is at par with international shows. This nomination also shows the quality of the series and the need of the international audience for good stories regardless of the country where they were created.

Star Power and Creative Adaptation

That it is “The Night Manager” can be explained in part to the cast and creative team. Shelly Rungta is played by Anil Kapoor who was thrilled by the nomination saying that it was a worthy reminder that hard work always pays off. Kapoor took up the challenge of the show even though the character of Shelly Rungta was played by Hugh Laurie in the previous seasons, and the addition of newness and authenticity was going to be quite a challenge.

The series also features Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala who have given their best to the show and have made the show popular across the globe. The successful attempt made to localize a story that has a universal appeal while preserving the feel of the original has been the key factor in the success of the adaptation among Indians as well as viewers all over the world.

The International Emmys and Global Television

The International Emmy Awards slated for November 25 in New York honor Television Shows that are produced in regions other than America. This year’s host will be Indian comedian Vir Das who was awarded for the special ‘Landing’ The nominees are from Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, France, Japan, Germany, and other parts of the world which gives it a global appeal.
